Conditional text is created based on conditions that have to be met. InDesign uses these in automatic captions and directly in the Conditional Text panel. Did you try making a new text frame in that document? Do you get the same results? If not, something may have been accidentally done to the text frame. If so, the document itself may have issues. In that case, either start a new document if feasible, or save as and IDML file and re-open into InDesign. See if the issue goes away.

Usually when text gets scrunched together like that, it's because it's conditional text, but I've never seen that when placing text. Is it conditional text in Word and bringing over that information with it? Does this work in another document or is this related to this document only?

What does it mean conditional text and how can I see if it is? And I just tried and it seems it's only in this document
