just installed Premier Elements 15...have connected Sony 8mm by firewire and program is not recognizing camcorder...any suggestions?

Adobe stopped supporting tape cameras since version (I think) version 13.
On windows you will have to use something like WinDV

We're assuming of course that by 8mm you mean you have a Digital8 Sony camcorder.
8mm and Hi8 camcorder video can not be captured without a digital converter.
My camcorder is a Canon HDV connected by firewire. The new 15 software is not recognizing it. It is Mini DV tape. Will it not work with this new Adobe?
Premiere Elements no longer interfaces with tape-based camcorders.
You'll need to capture your video over a FireWire connection use a program like HDV Split.
