Subfolders dont appear

I use photo mechanic to cull all photos on my chip. Then I take the tagged photos and drag them to a portable HD I have (in a specific directory).

What is the best way to import them into LR? I've been simply dragging the folder into the LR icon. But, for some reason when I browse the drive in the "Folders" area in LR I don't see most of my subfolders that are on my portable drive. What am I doing wrong? Thanks!

After you get all the files where you want them using Photo Mechanic:

Start Lightroom.

Click the import button.

In the top-center, select "add" to import the files and leave them where they are.
