Unable to open images in CS4 from bridge

Just this morning this problem arose. I go cs4 bridge. I double click the image I wish to open and a small blue circle appears. This circle continues to turn but the image does not open on photoshop. this applies to jpeg images or photoshop images as well. I can open the image if I single click the image and select from the drop box "open with cs4". I use to be able to open images with the double click. What gives? More importantly how can I fix it so I can double click and open images again. My system is windows 7.

Have you tried going to preferences and re-setting the file type association? I'm not sure how it got lost but that should fix it.
