I think that I am losing it.....

I am having trouble downloading books to my kobo from the Toronto Public Library.

Their support desk sent instructions to help remedy the issue.

They advised to uninstall ADE from our computer and then install version 3.0.

Their instructions for uninstalling ADE didn't work but I was able to 'get rid of it' by highlighting the app and then hitting the command button ( on my mac) and the delete button and away it went...

I then installed ADE 3.0.

However I still cannot download books.......

The error message reads: Unable to download. Error getting License:License Server Communication Problem. E_ACT_NOT_READY

They sent the address for a website to find help re this specific error message but this specific error message was not addressed by the website that they suggested.

HELP.......please.....

Same thing here: DRM protected ACSM's, from a public Dutch library: some file work OK, but on adding some files to the ADE4 library, ADE keeps crashing. It crashes also when you try to add a book to the attached KOBO reader and it is also impossible to read the book in the ADE app itself. Crappy software, Adobe: do something about it please, but hurry before everybody walks away from this crappy software/technique.

Trouble downloading ebooks to my kobo from public library using ADE 4.5

Please send your solution to this forum.

If you uninstall ADE 4.5 you have to also deauthorize you computer before a reinstall of ADE 4.5 or previous versions can be used again.

Windows

Open the Windows Registry. First, open the command prompt.

Click the Windows Start button and type cmd in the "Search programs and files" field at the bottom of this screen.

At the command prompt type:

regedit

Search for this folder:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adept\Activation

Delete the Activation folder.

Mac

In Finder, find the Go option on the menu bar and click Go to folder.

Type:

~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Digital Editions/

Delete the activation.dat file in the Digital Editions folder.

Tinaw,

How did you figure it out specifically?

And Carolyn could you please post the library instructions you got from the Toronto Public Library. I can use the solutions to advise the Regina Public Library who didn't have a solution for me when I contacted them. Thanks.

Hi there.

I am a tech moron and do not know how to post the advice from the library.

I will send you the instructions that I received, and that worked for me.

Would you please share with the Adobe Community?

This advice was provided by the Toronto Public Library Overdrive Support Services staff.

And it applies to those folks experiencing difficulty downloading ebooks and receiving the following authorizations errors:

- E_STREAM_ERROR

- E_ADEPT_DOCUMENT_TOO_SHORT

- E_AUTH_NOT_READY

- E_AUTH_BAD_DEVICE_KEY_OR_PKCS12

- E_ACT_NOT_READY

- Error! Check Activation

The support desk advised to de-authorize and then re-authorize my computer by doing the following:

1. Open ADE.

2. Press CtrlShiftD (CommandShiftD on a Mac)

3. In the pop-up window that appears, enter the password for your Adobe ID or OverDrive account. Then click continue.

4. Select Erase Authorization, then OK

5. Try authorizing your computer again by going to Help>Authorize computer

I hope that this advice can help someone else who loves reading and is frustrated by technology.

Thanks so much!

I tried out Carolyn's information and the process works to de-authorize ADE and it works to re-authorize my computer.

But when I run a download for an epub ebook from the Regina Public Library's (RPL) Library2Go platform ADE opens with the epub download but the ebook is not found in ADE. In fact, when I click on any settings in ADE after the download the ADE is frozen. I have to use the Start Task Manager to end the frozen program.

Any ideas? I am using a laptop with W7. I use my Adobe ID sign in when authorizing my computer, as suggested by the RPL IT staff,  rather than the Cloud Library option.

I have the error Check activation also. However, I cannot de-authorize the unit and not technical enough to get into the registry.  Very disappointed in this.

I have ADE 4.5.1. The ascm file downloads from the library, but when I click on it, Adobe opens ...empty. I can't get the epub file.
