Using most up to date LR version (CC), and every few minutes it will open the import dialogue.  Computer can be sitting idle and it will do it.

Where does it want to import from? Do you have an SD card plugged in?

Also, go to LR's Preferences > General, and make sure that "Show import dialog when a memory card is detected" is unchecked.

Thanks for the reply!

No SD card, only my external hard drive with photos on it.

It is looking at the root of my external hard drive.

I’ve used this setup for 8 yrs, first time this has happened.  In addition, it has happened on different editing sessions on different days.

Are there any images store in the ROOT of that external drive?

But unchecking that option should stop this from happening

When was the last time you closed Lightroom, disconnected and restarted your computer? Have you rebooted since this behavior started?

I disagree with  JSM's suggestion to uncheck that setting in preferences. If this just started happening that setting isn't was it causing the issue. Try rebooting the computer, the external and Lightroom and see if that makes a difference.

Some drive or device you have connected to a USB port on your system is causing this. Along with what was mentioned above.
