CS6 Will Not Export Adobe InDesign Tagged Text

I am using: CS6 (8.1) on Mac Mini (late 2012) OSX El Capitan (10.11.6).

When I select text on InDesign page, File -> Export -> Adobe InDesign Tagged Text -> Verbose or Abbreviated -> ASCII, I get a blank text file.

Is there a pref or checkbox I need to turn on or off to make this happen?

Thank you for your time and assistance.

CS6 is unsupported under El Capitan and later Mac systems.

Beyond trashing your preferences, you’re on your own, unfortunately.

Well, here are the instructions from the online help:

Export documents in InDesign

Following steps 1-4 in that document (and on Mac OS: 10.11.6, InDesign: 8.1):

I am getting this in Text Edit:

What application are you using to open the .txt file? Here is one of them in Word:

I am using TextWrangler simple text file format to view text.

I previously have successfully exported tagged text using the process in the documentation (File -> Export -> Adobe InDesign Tagged Text ). I'm not sure why it won't work now.

Thank you for your reply.

Well, I don't have any experience with TextWrangler, but TextEdit is installed on your system (unless you removed it). What happens when you open it up there?

I'm shifting from "maybe you don't remember how to do it" to "you do know how, but it's just not working anymore".

So—I know a lot of Mac users rarely shut down their systems. Does a hard reboot make a difference?

And what about deleting InDesign preferences?

Well, I don't have any experience with TextWrangler,

I was about to send info to BarbBinder on TextWrangler from Bare Bones, and was surprised—very surprised—to find out that this darling is about to be retired forever.

Hi Jane,

you certainly shocked me this morning…

But if I am interpreting this right, TextWrangler (free) is now (perhaps also was in the past) a subset of BBedit.
So nothing seems lost, because a not licensed version of BBedit still exposes all functionality of the retired TextWrangler product.

Regards,
Uwe

Shocked me as well, Uwe Laubender. I have used the free TextWrangler forever.

BBEdit has always been the paid version, but most of us have happily use the free version.

Click the "Buy" button for pricing.

I don't know if TextWrangler will stop working or if we just won't be able to download it again. Probably the latter.
