Crashed file! Help!

My InDesign has been crashing here and there, but this last time it crashed, I was not able to open up the file I was working on. It just freezes up my InDesign! Help would be greatly appreciated. I use the latest version of the cloud and have a Mac with the latest OS system. El Capitan.

Try resetting your InDesign preference:

Close and relaunch InDesign, and IMMEDIATELY hold down Ctrl + Alt + Shift (Windows) or Cmd + Ctrl + Opt + Shift (Mac), and respond in the affirmative to the dialog asking if you really want to replace the preferences. You must be extremely fast on the keyboard (if you don’t see the confirmation prompt, you were too slow).

You may need to do this a couple of times before getting the hang of it!

I have a template I have created, but would need to repour all of the info. Not the worst, but will still certainly take me 4 hours or so to reformat and repour. Lesson well learned now. Back up and back up again!

Yep, regular incremental back ups, internally and externally, are vital, and using Save As occasionally to remove corruptions.

If you have really learned the value of doing regular backups, while only losing 4 hours of work, it is worth it. It will save you much more time in the future.
