Are adobe images both royalty-free and free for commercial use? I would like to put images of maps, people, and animals in my book that I'm selling for profit. Is that allowed? Do I have to give credit to Adobe in my book?

Yes the images are all royalty free but not free for commercial use. You must license an image before you can use it. Wether you need a standard or extend license depends on how you are using the images.

I would like to put images of maps, people, and animals in my book that I'm selling for profit. How do I obtain a license for that? Do I need a license for each individual photo?

You would most likely need the Extended licenses for each photo/image.

Here are some details about the Extended License (it looks like if you're printing less than 500,000 copies of your book, you might be OK - but it would definitely be something to check into): Extended Licenses now available on Adobe Stock | Creative Cloud blog by Adobe
