I recently purchased the new 2016 MacBook with the touchbar. I have CS6 extended installed which I purchased a few years back and was wondering if there is currently an update or option that allows this version of photoshop to be compatible with the touchbar feature?

No.

Support for the Touch Bar was first added in Photoshop CC 2017.0.1. There is no support in earlier versions.

CS6 is end-of-life software and will no longer receive any updates.

CS6 is "compatible" with the touchbar in that it is not aware of it and doesn't mess around with it. I'm sure CS6 falsely attempting to use the touchbar and crashing all the time would be more annoying, so look on the bright side...
