Selection tool not working to move objects using indesign.

i have tried deleting and resetting the preference tools and it will not work.  I am on a pc not mac.

There are many things that could be the culprit:

  • Are you using the Selection tool (the black arrow)?
  • Are there locked elements on the spread? (use Object > Unlock All on Spread to unlock them)
  • Are the elements on the master pages but you are on a body page? (In that case, navigate to the master page and move them there or Ctrl Sh click on them on a body page to override their position)

If you are unsure, post a screen shot that includes the Layers panel and Page panel, both opened up so that we can see the contents. Click the triangle in front of Layer 1 to open it up. For example:
