CC2017 idml. Opening through CC2015.

Back saving from CC2017 as an idml. Opening through CC2015 the position of coloured boxes can move and stylesheets change.

I am curious about what specifically changed in the styles. And were the frames anchored? Did they have Object styles?

If you reopen the idml in 2017, does it look like the original or like the one you opened in 2015?

And just to confirm, is it 2015.4 that came out in 2016, or an earlier 2015?

This is causing us some problems. We have a few older macs which cant update from 2015 to 2017 and when we back save as an idml file, things are changing. Please see screenshots attached.

B).  As you can see the background box has a tint fill, positioned on the Master Page.

A).  When back saved as an idml and opened through CC2015 the first image is how the document looks.

can you upload your sample document plus the IDML to your Dropbox account (or to a similar service) and post the link so that we can inspect the files?

I once reported some IDML bugs where strange things happened to objects on the masters.

What all the bugs have in common: In one way or another the size of the pages was changed in the lifetime of the document.

One of the bug started with InDesign CS6, others sneaked in with several CC versions.

Forgot to mention:

One way to workaround the bugs would be to move or duplicate all page items spread by spread, master by master to a fresh new document. At least you could try that with your sample document you were showing in reply 5.

Talking about Alternate Layouts:

Even if you remove alternate layouts, use the page tool to change the page size back to original, maybe scale some elements on the masters that once belonged to an alternate layout, still strange things can happen to pages where masters are applied that once belonged to a different alternate layout with a different page size.

Below a simple example where I had one A4 document with some pages.

Added an alternate layout with A5 page size.

Removed the alternate layout and changed the page size on the masters with the Page tool back to A4.

Then I saved and exported to IDML.

Opened the IDML with the same version of InDesign—CC 2017:

Added one even page after the last page of the document and the element on master B moved in relation to the added page.

Note: This is exactly the same master, that is applied to page 12 on the spread before. No master items are detached.

Adding another page—the complementing odd page of the spread—and everything seems to be in good order again.

So I assume that something went wrong with Stephen's document because once alternate layouts were perhaps used.
