From what I understand, catalog sizes should no longer be a hinderance to saving your metadata (according to the Adobe techies), but I keep getting a message stating: "Your catalog size is larger than 4GB. Please use 3rd party utility such as 7-zip or Stuffit Expander to extract your catalog backup". I have the most recent Lightroom version. I also have plenty of room on my external hard drive where the catalog is stored. I'm thinking of starting a new catalog instead of dealing with Stuffit. What do you think?

That message is only saying that Lightroom cannot handle catalogs larger than 4 GB. It's being displayed inappropriately, and will be corrected in an upcoming program update. For the present time just check the box indicating not to show it again.
