Upgrade from 5 to 6.8 complete, but not functioning. Remains at LR5

I have downloaded and installed 6.8, but LR 5.7.1 is still operating and not 6.8

Lightroom 5 and Lightroom 6.8  are completely separate programs. If you have properly installed Lightroom 6.8 then it's possible that you are starting Lightroom from  the shortcut  for Lightroom 5. The icons for the two programs are identical.
