I was talking today with a web designer, who's working with Wordpress. She said "it's unfortunate I don't like Wordpress", as it is better when it comes to Google rankings/SEO. Is this true? Indeed, I like Muse since it feels more like graphic design, as opposed to Wordpress.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and possibly answer.
SEO depends on a lot of things, from mark-up used, page load speed, relevance of keywords, is it mobile friendly and even how accessible it is.
Muse, Wordpress and even a custom site created in say Dreamweaver or the 'big daddy' of code editors, Visual Studio Pro.can all fail on any or all of the above. The one that Muse will fail most often on though, is page load speed, then accessibility and mark-up.
This is not Muses fault, but a necessity of its user base. Muse is a program for people who do

No, there is no difference. All the same SEO rules apply and can be achieved in both methods. Wordpress has no advantages over Muse or any other method.

A bad and uninteresting website will fare poorly regardless in which tool it is created. That's the whole point. It's about the content. That said, of course pages created in Muse are often less than ideal in terms of SEO due to their bloated formatting and extensive script usage, but all things considered, you can mess up a WP site just as well by using a not so great theme or some plug-ins...

Thank you for your reply. Does that mean that I can counteract that ("pages created with Muse less than ideal") by good SEO practices?

I would like to add to what has been said above - to compare Muse with Wordpress is not correct. They do not replace each other, and operate in their unique niches of developmen.

This is not Muses fault, but a necessity of its user base. Muse is a program for people who do not want to code, and this means it must try to use a click to use/insert method that covers all possibilities for much of UI, and then include all the code that enabled a user to use click/insert in every possible situation, even if not used in the site visitors download.
Wordpress however includes much of its code on the server, so it is not downloaded by the end user. That said it is quite easy once a wordpress site is 'handed to the client' for it to become worse than a Muse created site, and of course it also fails when it comes to mark-up and accessibility, often even worse than Muse.
Mark-up = html and css used.
html 5 has a better SEO rating than older versions of html, and just including the html 5 doctype, as both Muse and Wordpress does, does not improve SEO rankings.

Thank you all for your replies. So that means, I shouldn't worry about not using Wordpress from a SEO perspective. Is that what should get from this?

Basically, correct.
Unless you intend to learn how to code in html5, css and javascript, then using Muse is your only option. People who build sites using wordpress only have the 'page weight', (the total size of all the files that make up the page, things like code, images, etc) advantage over Muse. So providing you are thoughtful about how many images, fonts, videos, etc. you include, then you can minimize this one disadvantage.
BTW: Designing or developing a site in wordpress, does not make someone a coder.

Thanks a lot, Pziecina, it makes sense. I'm glad to hear that's the case
