Cropping photo to image size

I have 1500 old photos that I have scanned onto my computer for a project. All of them are different sizes, and all of them have white space around them from being scanned. Is there any way to delete this white space using an action batch, or will I have to individually crop each of the photos? I am working in CS6 and so far I have not been able to get the 'trim' feature to work. It only removes some of the background, not all of it. I tried putting the photo on a separate layer, selecting the layer content, and then selecting crop, but I got the same failed results as using trim.
