For some reason photoshop has started deleting layers instead of the selection?

I've tried doing a search but its for people that want to delete layers not the selection -.-

I don't believe i've changed any settings.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Apologies, I have being a little silly... I wasn't rasterizing the layer before selecting and editing.

Thankyou for the reply

First make certain that you have made a selection. You can check for sure by choosing Select menu. If Deselect is grayed out, there is no selection.

When you hit the Delete key and a selection is action, the selected pixels on the layer (other than a Background layer) will be deleted. If no pixels are selected when you hit the Delete key, the active layer will be deleted.

Let me know if this solves the issue.
