Lightroom won't import images from my San Disk

Lightroom won't import photos from my San Disk.  I usually download and import images direct from the disc into my Mac computer through Lightroom.  This process worked has worked successfully for some time (including as late as last week).  But today, while I can still see and select the images from the import screen in the Library module, nothing happens once I hit Import.

I usually import images using the 'Copy as DNG' option. My camera is a Canon EOS 80D

I uploaded the latest releases for Lightroom (2015.9) and Camera RawCC (9.9) a few days ago and this is the first time I have tried to import photos since then.  Could these updates be the reason the import process no longer works.

Any advice on how to get this process working again?

Are you using a card reader or directly connecting the camera?
(Using a card reader is better.)

Can you navigate the folders on the card using Finder?

I guess I'm using an inbuilt card-reader in my Mac Computer. I insert the disk directly into the computer.  I've used this process for a while now and had no problems up to now.

Is there an error message?

Have you checked to see if the card reader/USB cable is working properly by trying to copy the photos to the computer some other way than via Lightroom?

Thanks everyone for your help with suggestions of what to look at.  I just returned to my computer after a couple of hours away and found that the upload process now works perfectly.  I wonder if what was happening was that as the San disk is getting quite full, the computer/LR was still working its way through all the images on the disk even though the previews were showing up.. Leaving it alone for a while gave this process time to finish.

So all your questions around the process of reading the card were on the right track.
