InDesign 'you cannot reverse this change with the edit > undo command' showing after every change

I'm having an issue with InDesign, it keeps randomly crashing and when I to get a file open 'you cannot reverse this change with the edit > undo command' keeps popping up everytime I do anything. Has anyone come across this before?
