Dear sir, madam,

Since recently I started making back-ups of the Lightroom Catalogue to an external hard drive. When I move the Catalogue file back to the HD of my PC an error message pops up. It says that Lightroom cannot use the catalogue because it is write-protected and therefore cannot be opened. The message says that this might be caused by incorrect authorizations or that the catalogue is used by another Lightroom application. It proposes to resolve the issue or to select another catalogue.

I really don't know how to resolve this issue, moreover I am only using one catalogue. On a website I read that this might be caused by so-called lock files. However, these lock files I already removed. Without success that is.

I sincerely hope that you can give me some guidance or advice that allows me to resolve this issue.

This would be much appreciated, thanks a lot in advance,

Does the lrcat file you're copying back have a write protect flag set?

What is your OS?
Can you post a screenshot of the files properties?

If you are using Lightroom 6 or Lightroom CC the catalog is stored within a zip file. The catalog has to be removed from that zip file in order to be used.  Could this be the issue? The other possibility is to check  on the permissions for the folder or the catalog itself to make sure that they/it has both read and write permissions. If you don't know how to do that, do a web search and include your operating system in the search criteria. What version of Lightroom are you using? What operating system do you have?
