Advices needed with regard to nested MSO

Good morning,

I am working on a draft to make an interactive map with pop up MSOs.

I went through Bob Levine's masterful Lynda video prior to this topic. It is not that complicated from what I learned.

Unfortunately, I have not been able, with my files to replicate, either the nested MSO or the pop-up example using an MSO instead of a video.

Maybe someone can point out my mistakes.

Hopefully, my descriptions are not too complicated.

I have a start page with pin symbols on a map.

Afterwards, several individual pages will be inserted with individual MSO (5 or more states).

For the purpose of this demo, just one active pin, so just two pages (start and target).

Briefly, here what I tried.

I created a MSO from both pages (start and target).

I produced another MSO to nest within the pin target content.

I succeeded to nest the latter, but only the first state shows up.

I am probably not using the right sequence to achieve that.

After several tries, I thought it would be more productive to ask the Adobe Community.

I tried something else but not elegantly as the MSO process.

I kept both pages outside a MSO.

I used a pin button to get to the appropriated page.

I pasted a MSO to the pin target page.

It doesn't look that bad, even if the first two states are not properly rendered.

Any advices to find a more elegant solution would be appreciated.

The map in the background should remain static, not part of the MSO. The first state can be the pins along with buttons to the other states.

Each additional state would be the info for the geographic area you want to highlight along with a “close” button that would take you back to the first state.

I’m not sure what you’re after as far as the rest of the project.

This is just a small prototype to explore the MSO options.

Much more easy though with your exercices files.

I still have two concerns with my project.

First

I am trying to nest the MSO (Cascades) from page 2 into the MSO (Circuit) state Terrasse (page 1).

This is maybe quite simply impossible to do. I tried with the textbox trick to no avail (How to add an MSO to a state...).

Indesign file is attached if someone is interested to take a look.

Second

This one is puzzling. When I use the ePub Interactivity Viewer Tool, the MSO (Cascades) from page 2 looks fine.

However, after Publishing the document Online or Exporting in ePub, the first two states are not properly displayed.

The ePub file attached comes from a prior attempt.

You can't nest them across pages so you can forget about that.

As for the rest, without studying the files, it's almost impossible for me to tell what's going on.

Hi PYPlourde,

what exactly is "not properly displayed"?

The ePub file attached comes from a prior attempt.

In that attempt I can see that the image is not changing when going from state 1 to 2 to 3.
But since your provided InDesign document does not reflect what you were doing in the moment you exported that fixed layout EPUB I cannot tell what's wrong.

I published online your InDesign test document and see no principal problem with the MSO on page 2.
Since you did not provide the images the preview of two images is missing in state 1 and 3.

Can you provide a screenshot where you mark what's going wrong?

My problem is exactly that, like you said, the image is not changing when going from state 1 to 2 to 3, as shown by the screen captures attached taken from the link provided after publishing the document online. Everything works fine from ePub Viewer Tool.

For your information, I would like to add that two of the five elements, within the MSO (#1 and #3), are OAM.files imported in InDesign.

After different tries, I probably found the culprit. Apple Safari.

Sorry, I should have tested that prior to my request.

When I used the link provided by Publish Online, there is no problem with Google Chrome.

ah. Thank you for this.

Initally I tested with Firefox on Mac OSX.
Now did a test with Safari 10.0 on OSX 10.10.5 and can confirm the problem with the MSO.
The wrong preview image is showing in state 1 and the wipe effect does not work. Also wrong image in state 2. Supposed wipe is not working. Wipe is only  working with state 3.

Hm. The wipe effect comes with the used oam files.
Maybe that's why Safari cannot cope with it?

With Firefox no problems:
1. Click the button on page 1 on the map and I will go to page 2 showing the MSO.

3. Clicking through the different states of the MSO works as expected. Could use the wipe effect in state 1 and state 3.
4. Using the close button in the right top corner of every state brings me back to page 1.

It was three months ago…

I recently needed to take a deeper look into the actual topics.

I found interesting things I would like to share.

All files used in this demo are provided with the Dropbox link attached.

This a simple 4 page Indesign (CC 2017 prior to the last iteration) document (testPYP.indd).

Page1. Wipe effect imported from OAM file

Page2. Picture1

Page3. Picture2

Page4. MSO with three states (picture1, picture2, OAM file (wipe effect) from page1)

I used this file to check the proper rendering from a desktop computer (iMac – Mac OS X 10.11.6) and a portable device (iPad Pro 9.7 with the latest version of iOS).

Here my findings.

A-From within InDesign EPUB Previewer, everything is fine and runs smoothly.

B-Things are not so optimal after the Publish Online process.

Desktop

All four pages run perfectly with Google Chrome.

The wipe effect in the MSO (page #4) is not recognized by Safari.

Mobile device

In both, Chrome and Safari mobile, the wipe effect in the MSO (page#4) is not working properly.

C-ePub export not right either

Desktop

In Adobe Digital Editions, both pages (#1 and #4 (MSO State 3)) with the imported OAM file, are not working properly. Just lines of code are showing up (Screen capture attached).

In iBooks, the MSO (page#4) is not working.

Mobile device

In Adobe Digital Editions, both pages (#1 and #4 (MSO State 3)) with the imported OAM file, are not working properly. Just lines of code are showing up (Screen capture attached).

In iBooks, the animation in page#1 (OAM file) and (page#4 (MSO State 3) are not working.

I would greatly appreciate your help to make the whole thing work, if possible.
