I started a separate account for Audition alone on a separate computer. With fresh install of both the Creative Cloud app signed into the new account, and Audition, I repeatedly get the following message:
‘Audition cannot access the preference folder. Please make sure current user has the read/write permission to the preference folder'
Uninstall and reinstall, along with running first aid on the Mac disk have not changed this situation.
How do I adjust the preferences/where is the folder when Audition won't open?

Thank you, but the thread you reference through the link is for Audition 5.0/5.5. I have Adobe Audition Creative Cloud 2017 -- which seems to be set up entirely differently, because there is no Adobe folder in the Library. There is only a small file called com.adobe.PDFAdminSettings.plist

did you enable viewing of hidden files/folders?

Yes I've enabled that, and an Adobe folder still doesn't show up in the Preferences folder in the Library
It is the latest version of Audition Creative Cloud, on an iMac with the latest Sierra installed. The previous IMac died, and so this is a new one, and I used Time Machine to restore the backup from the previous iMac. that may be part of the problem, though I uninstalled the Creative Cloud that I have on my main subscription so that I could install a separate copy of Audition under a second subscription of Creative Cloud, in order to use the space on the CC Drive as well as share audio files with a designated laptop via CC.

never use time machine with adobe programs.
uninstall everything cc including preferences, https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/uninstall-remove-app.html
then uninstall the cc desktop app, https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/uninstall-creative-cloud-desktop-app.html
clean your computer of cc files per http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html
restart your computer (don't skip this)
reinstall the cc desktop app, https://creative.adobe.com/products/creative-cloud.
use the desktop app to install your cc programs/trials

Audition SDK wasn't the correct thread. It should go into Audition CS5.5, CS6 & CC
