Unable to unstack images in LR

Why, when i've edited an image in PS (or Silver Efex), when i save it, it won't unstack back in Lightroom. It has done this before, and then mysteriously started working again-just saving as  tif copy. After my latest update it has stopped again and shows 2 stacked images, but won't display them!

I asked Adobe about this a while ago and they couldn't give me an answer!

can anyone here help please?

Sounds similar to this problem that was never solved.  Must be ANOTHER random glitch in Lightroom.  There are way to many of these.

Re: Stacking issue after having edited

You might try setting "Stack with Original" to OFF in the external editing preferences as this seems to cause the problem.  You can then stack later.  Not a great workaround but beats not being able to unstack.

Thanks for your reply Bob. It didn't seem to work, and then suddenly was ok again! I'm not sure if it was because of your suggestion or despite it! I guess time will tell... thanks..!

Please provide many more details of what you're doing and observing. "The same problem" often turns out to be different.  Also, please copy here the first ten lines from the menu command Help > System Info.

Hey! I know it's been a long time since you posted this. I just run into the same issue and I found this thread. My problem with not being able to unstack was that I had filters ON, therefore, I was not able to see the images I was unstacking, just the one that I have flagged (I had set to only show pictures that I have flagged). Maybe checking your filter options could solve the issue

Ha! That helped me too, thanks!
Your solution, of course, is really a workaround around a problem for which there ought to be a formal solution (in this case, a feature that automatically gives the option to group starred image with unstarred versions).

All I know is I had LR open, edited the photos, then did edit in PS then back as a .tif and when I ask to create a virtual copy, it would stack that rather than display the photo on the photo line thus making it impossible to edit the new virtual copy. When I unstacked, that VC went away. THEN, when I read your answer about the filter being on in the Library mode, I just checked it, unclicked that and they are all back were I can see the VC. THANKS!
