Text Question

At the :51 second mark the text changes from a solid to a video.  How would you do this in After Effects?  I kept thinking is was a stencil blending mode, but when I change the opacity on the text layer it changes everything.  I'm trying to get the look of flying through the text to the video.

You can use multiple copies of things and Track Mattes.
