How to synchronise/reconcile LR5 & LRCC libraries

I've been using LR for years and last year I finally got my CC account and moved over to LRCC from LR5. I am not getting on very well with LRCC (could be the subject of another post but here I want to ask about one specific issue) and sometimes when I have been in a hurry I have got frustrated trying to open LRCC so have used LR5 instead to get the job done. I use the same external hard drive location, folder structure etc but the photo's I have added via LR5 do not show up in LRCC. I'm sure I'll feel a right plum when I get educated but in the meantime I'd really appreciate if someone can show me how to ensure the folders/photos (and their develop info) are present in at least one of the two versions. Many thanks

UPDATE: I just used the Import function in LRCC and selected a folder of photo's that are already added in LR5 and added them to LRCC. It's worked but it looks like it hasn't brought across my develop settings, flags etc. I say 'looks like' because as I type LRCC is 'Building 1:1 Previews' - maybe that will add the dev settings?

Don't use regular Import, use Import from Another Catalog. The Lr5 catalogue contains all your work.

And uninstall Lr5. OK, you don't have to, but it's hard enough managing things with one version of a program - why make life hard?

Thanks John - I tried that but got a message saying I can't import into the active catalogue. LRCC and LR5 show the same catalogue under Lightroom/Catalogue Settings/General Tab/Location. So it looks like both versions point at the same catalogue but changes made in one don't show in the other. I agree about removing LR5 but need to resolve this first

Lightroom 5 and Lightroom CC cannot use the same catalog. They are not compatible. When you first started Lightroom CC it should have found your Lightroom 5 catalog and prompted you to allow it to create an upgraded/updated version of that catalog. That updated version should have included all of the work that you had done previously in Lightroom 5. From that point forward any new work should then be done using Lightroom CC. You cannot expect to add images in one version and find them in the other one. It just isn't going to work. Lightroom 5 and Lightroom CC  can be installed on the same computer and function separately. But they will use separate catalogs. Those catalogs can contain the same images. But  the two versions will have different renderings of the same images.

CC and Lr5 cannot both point at the same catalogue. CC / 6 uses an upgraded version of the catalogue, so double check exactly which catalogue is which. Import from Catalog is then the route to follow, and CC will tell you it is upgrading the Lr5 catalogue during the Import from Catalog process, so you'll have extra confirmation it is importing the correct catalogue.
