Hello great people...
I am designing this catalogue spread (picture above)
Right now, I am unsure of the white background. I know empty space is important
but I find it too white and empty.
What can I include to make it more attractive and less empty?
Like what sort of background OR something on the sides?
Please, any suggestions are most welcomed! Thanks

Perhaps some gentle gradients or very very soft patterns...
Pastel light blue or off-white/cream perhaps? or colours of that "feel"?
I'd be interested in hearing other peoples suggestions as I'm not quite sure what else you can do without a radical re-design..
If I have other thoughts I will let you know.
Best,
EW

Hi,
In addition, you can also Update your InDesign to CC 2017.1 and explore some nice templates that come with the new "New Document" window
You can get some new and interesting ideas for color schemes.

A random thought. I like white space but on the left page there is a jarring mixture of shapes. Two diagonals, one rectangle. The eyes need to very quickly isolate elements; as a user I'd like lines around each element but designers wouldn't. But consider changing the logical shape of the chair by moving the price to the left of the leg, the splash over the right arm, and close up the colour guide. Maybe my idea makes sense; think of the photo and attached elements as all making a shape, then make them tesselate nicely. I also don't like the truncated "Sanitary" heading. It's inconsistent and looks like either a splash or a subhead of "mood item". Be strong with these headings, a full width may also enliven the design.

Thinking practically you will have to make sure all images are cut out if you drop colours behind them, not sure how the glass topped table will look sat on a colour?
