Question regarding specification sheets and brochures

I work for a manufacturer and am wondering if InDesign has the capability to grab information from an Excel Spreadsheet and update it across several specification sheets, or Brochures.   Let's say the model number of an engine changes and it affects 27 product brochures.   Is there a way I can change the info in one place and have it automatically update 27 product brochures?

It is possible to link Word and Excel files like you can link image file. You must change it in InDesign’s preference. Althoug I cannot recommend it.

I would suggest to buy a DataBase link to InDesign plugin which can link any Excel and Access file. Some can even work in both ways, and accept changes done in InDesign to be forwarded into the sheet.
