I have a workstation that is only 5 months old. It was purchased with specific intent to utilize the highest end M5000M graphics processor in Photoshop and other programs.

First my problem started with the 3D menu being greyed out. In my research to enable it I found many suggestions to follow the procedure in the following thread Photoshop CS6 doesn't recognize my NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675M GPU?

I have performed the check on my card drivers, they are up to date. I have followed the steps in the thread multiple times. Not only is the 3D menu still greyed out, but my Performance menu continue to show the integrated Intel card and not the Nvidia card.

EDIT: I finally was able to get the card to show up, it required not only disabling my intel card via the device menu, but also the Nvidea control panel step. After that, opening Photoshop > Performance showed the Nvidia card.

But the 3D menu remains greyed out.

Your machine has two different GPU try using the Nvidia control panel to set  use your Nvidia GPU for Photoshop not both. Photoshop can have problems when two different GPU are used.  If the does not work try using the Windows divice manager to disable the Intel HD GPU. It looks like the Nvidia setting is not working. You Photoshop preferences Performance is showing the Intel HD where Photoshop system info is showing  both.

Thank you but as my original post indicates..

I did use the Nvidia control panel to force Photoshop to use the Nvidia card. Unfortunately it resets to the integrated graphics option every time I close the control panel.

I did disable the Intel card, which in combination with the above I managed to get the Nvidia card to show under the Performance tab.

After, I reenabled the Intel card. The Nvidia card is used so long as I keep the program running. Upon a restart of Photoshop, the Intel card defaults back under Performance.

For 3D menu :

I changed the color profile to RGB, tried 8/16/32, still no 3D menu.

I changed the ram under performance to 50% instead of 70%, still no 3D menu.

Resetting the preferences file during startup made the 3D menu show up.

I have made note of these processes, but having to turn on and off devices and having to reset these program settings every time I launch photoshop is a hinderance and very annoying. I hope Adobe is working on a way to resolve this problem with dual GPU's, because almost all workstations have integrated graphics these days and this workaround is not a long term solution..

Did you try  just leaving the Intel device disables in Windows device manager so it not used at all? Why enable it if is a problem. You may want to search on the Surface Book that has  an Nvidia chip in the Keyboard. That machine may have some way to use the Nvidia graphics when Keyboard is attached and the Intel device when the keyboard is detached.

My Surface Pro 3 just has its Intel 5000 HD and Photoshop works.

My Worstations just have Qradro.  One a 4000 the other K2200

With the Intel device disabled, my native workstation display resolution changes and cuts off the task bar so only the tops of icons are visible. I cannot change the resolution of the monitor via Nvidia control panel as it cannot be detected. So without the Intel GPU enabled I have a clunky workspace that is hard to navigate. This is why I re-enable the Intel card once Photoshop has detected the Quadro.

I appreciate the mention of the Surface Book, I have a Surface Pro 4 myself, but cannot see the relevance to this topic. I do have issues with the photoshop interface on my surface being too small to read, but that's another topic entirely.

This workstation is Dell laptop, a "desktop replacement."

The Surface Book can have two GPU  Intel HD graphics build into the CPU module and an Nvidia Chipset in the detachable Keyboard.  So some surface Book may need to deal with your  Problem.  However is seems you have a display driven by your Nvidia Grapgics and a display driven by your Intel graphics.  Not a single display like the surface book that can be driven by either or both graphics chipsets,

You can use Window scaling to scale your surface Pro 4 display to a lower resolution for applications like Photoshop.  Requires a registry update and file or Windows 10 Preview shortcut option.

So today I could not access the 3D menu again. I had to do the ENTIRE process again for the 3D menu to be available.

• Disable integrated GPU via Device Manager

• Set Photoshop to High-performance NVIDIA processor in Nvidia Control Panel

• Start Photoshop and immediately press Ctrl+Alt+Shift to reset the preferences file

• Re-enable Integrated GPU via Device Manager

• Set Photoshop to High-performance NVIDIA processor in Nvidia Control Panel a second time (previous step reverts it to Integrated)

This process cannot be the answer. There has to be a more permanent solution than me having to delete my preferences every time I start PS.

Who manufactured your mobile workstation perhaps they can help.  My workstation is not a laptop its three display are driven by a Nvidia Quadro K2200 at their native resolutions one is a 4K display the other two are 1600x1200 4:3 displays.   You seem to state your laptop lcd display is not driven by the internal Nvidia Quadro M5000M or that when it is the display is scaled to a lower resolution that windows does not see so windows task bar is off screen because of lower number of scaled pixels.  The internals display resolution change that you wrote about seem very strange to me.

I would think the whole purpose of having Nvidia Quader M5000M in a laptop would be to drive the Laptop LCD Display with a high performance GPU and the display would be drive is at the LCD's native resolution so there will be no distortion.   The resolution change you write about does not seem right to me.

I just went to a different office location. My display at this office does not trigger the Nvidia card, so turning off the integrated card leaves Photoshop with a "no GPU memory" error when the Quadro does not run.

After re-enabling the Intel card, I forced the preferences to reset in the chance it might make the 3D menu show up. It did. However, it seems I am stuck using the Intel card for 3D if I cant force PS to run the Quadro. And I will probably have to reset my preferences each time I change monitors.

This was supposedly the top of the line workstation from Dell. It was purchased around November last year and given to me by the tech team at my office in February.

From the start there were strange issues with the resolution, and not just the top of the taskbars on all displays were cut off. Program windows in full screen had the edges on all sides cut off. I lowered the resolution to non-native resolution and the problem went away, which confused me but at least I could see everything.

I have no ability to figure out this issue with the manufacturer, I didn't purchase it and I don't have the time or understanding. Unfortunately giving it back to tech means I have to give up my only means of doing my work. If this truely is a tech problem I will do what I have to do.

But this doesn't mean the problem with Photoshop isn't there. There needs to be some way to either use multiple GPU's, or at least the ability to select which GPU to use.

You know what you can do to do you work,  You are not happy with what is required.  Adobe states that Photoshop can have problems  when machine use more that one model GPU.  Adobe is not likely to change Photoshop to be able to handle that type of configuration they would most likely state the problem is the OS support Mac or Windows or both.

Having three display on a mobile laptop makes that configuration  far from mobile.  The real solution is to get a real workstation. I have two Dell workstations a T5600 and a T3260,  The T5600 has a Nvidia Quadro 4000 and the T3260 a Nvidia Quadro K2200.  The Quadro 4000 has two displays one 1360x768  the other 1920x1080  at time I use a third display via a gigabit network connection a high resolution display either 2160x1440 or 2560x1600.   The Quadro K2200 drive three displays two are 1600x1200 the third 3840x2160. Photoshop and windows work fine.

Windows know the correct number of pixels each display has nothing is cut off if I setup Windows scaling  and force Photoshop to use windows scaling Photoshop will see any display that is scaled has fewer pixels the it actually has.  Windows Display scaling is a per display setting not global like Photoshop scaling UI Preference.  Windows Scaling scale everything not just Photoshop UI. The image Photoshop displays also scaled to a lower resolution with windows scaling. So when you display actual with Photoshop the pixels are then scaled up ins number and what is displayed is not native display resolution.

IMO you should sell your  mobile workstation to someone the needs an mobile machine.  I would believe using only its Internal LCD the machine would work fine.   Using three displays like you are is most likely the root of your problems.  Dell could not sell a machine the dos now work.  You not using your mobile machine as a mobile machine.

This machine, from Dell, runs. Therefore it's not broken and they sold a working piece of equipment. But it's not running well. It's certainly not running at the expected level given how much money it cost.

This machine is a workstation. It being built into a laptop doesn't change that. Every person in my office of 200+ employees uses one. Desktop workstations are not used.

FYI, this machine is not mine. It belong to my workplace. Selling it makes no sense, but even if it did it is not mine to sell.

I find it a sad testament to Adobe's support on these forums, that after three days they havent even responded.

Not that I don't appreciate your responses, but so far you haven't been able to help at all. And your latest reply makes no sense and seems disconnected with the issue entirely, and is actually quite insulting.

You are using the wrong site if you are trying to report a problem and deal with  Adobe.   This site is just funded by Adobe. It is not part of Adobe's customer support.  Adobe funds this  site for their customers use.   So their users to help each other out using with using Adobe's  applications.  Your not dealing with Adobe support here. Adobe's site for the Photoshop family of products is Photoshop Family Customer Community

You should also contact Dell about how to configure your companies laptop to use three displays.  With the Nvidia Quadro M5000M. Your OS and application Displays should not be cropped.
