Premiere lagging- how to improve

Hello everyone,

i feel my premiere pro 2017 a bit slow, some lags when i move a clip or move the cursor in the timeline, however i have a not too bad computer

i7 Quad Core Processor 6820HK (2.7GHz, 3.6GHz Turbo)

64GB HyperX IMPACT 2133MHz SODIMM DDR4 (4 x 16GB)

NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1060 - 6.0GB GDDR5 Video RAM - DirectX® 12.1

HDD 512Gb SSD

I run Premiere pro on Windows 10 64bit

Premiere pro is installed on the boot disk

The project I work on is on an external hard disk USB3 (not SSD)

Would do you have any recommendation to set window or Premiere to have better performance ?

Hi Pierre.

I'm suspicious of the external drive. USB3 is fine but if the disc is only spinning at 5400rpm or has other low specs, that could cause the problem.
