I am running a mac with OS X 10.12. After some difficulty updating my copy of Lightroom 6 I tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Unfortunately Lightroom will not reinstall at all. The installer takes my serial number, asks for my system password and then quits just as it appears to be starting the install. I get a window that says the installation failed but when look at the error log I only get a link to the adobe webpage with the system requirements. Any suggestions?
So after some additional frustration I finally restored my whole mac from a time machine backup. This gave me a working version of Lightroom again. I then ran the CC cleaner tool. Oddly this broke Lightroom and it stopped working. I then carefully uninstalled Lightroom and the various supporting library files. After all this I was able to reinstall 6.0 and then use the in app updates link to update Lightroom to version 6.10.

You may need to try the CC cleaner tool from Adobe:
Use the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems

I just ran the CC cleaner tool. Unfortunately I am still unable to reinstall Lightroom 6. I still get the same Installation Failed message.

See this link for the downloads. You will first have to run the full LR 6 package since you have uninstalled the original application. Sent you download the latest update (patch) LR 6.10. See the screen capture from the web page.

DdeGannes. Thanks for chiming in. The link you suggest is the one I have been trying. I cannot get the 6.0 version of Lightroom to reinstall. Do you have any other suggestions?

The download file for version 6.0 is the link under Application Installers, is that the one you are trying?

Yes. I am using the Application Installer to try to install Lightroom, not the updater.

Have you restarted the computer as part of the operation?
You're doing the right things from what I can see.

Hey Sean,
I have restarted a few times. Tried again just now. Still no joy. Still no error log suggesting the problem either.

Has the Adobe Lightroom been deleted as part of the uninstall? Run the cleaner and if the folder is left, delete it.
Maybe move the contents of ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom as well
Also delete the preference files with com.adobe.Lightroom in the name from ~/Library/Preferences
where ~ is your home folder. To get Library active hold down Option and it becomes visible in the Go menu in Finder.
My only other thought is to run Disk Utility and run 'repair permissions'.
