Hi there, InDesign keeps crashing on me about every 10 minutes for no apparent reason. Using Macbook Pro with Retina display 2015, a couple of weeks old.

Which version of InDesign?

Have you tried trashing your InDesign preferences:

Close and relaunch InDesign, and IMMEDIATELY hold down Ctrl + Alt + Shift (Windows) or Cmd + Ctrl + Opt + Shift (Mac), and respond in the affirmative to the dialog asking if you really want to replace the preferences. you must be extremely fast on the keyboard (if you don’t see the confirmation prompt, you were too slow)

You may have to do it a couple of times before you get the hang of it!

The version I am using is 12.1.0.56 build/2017 release. I am not sure what trashing preferences is or how to do it. Will that get rid of important stuff such as tools.

When you reset your preferences you lose customisations (beyond those things that are set in the preferences dialogs). These include document and print presets you might have created.

Being a beginner at all this I am not exactly sure what that is going to do. Does it just set it back to default preferences?

Yes. As you're a beginner, you probably haven't made many changes, so don't worry about it.
