Missing "Character" Tool in Photoshop CS6

I just got photoshop yesterday and was following a youtube tutorial and the video said too click the character tool to change the font. I made sure all our settings were the same. It should be right under the properties and history tab but its not there. I have the text layer selected and am on the essential editing mode. thanks2017-05-01 (4)_LI.jpg
