Lightroom 6 ?

I am currently running Lightroom 5.7.1 but since buying a new camera I find that I need Lightroom 6. If I purchase and download  Lightroom 6 does it overwrite and replace the existing version I have.

LR 6 will not overwrite LR 5, so you will have both versions installed.

But after you have to upgraded your LR 5 catalog to LR 6 (this will be done with a copy of the LR 5 catalog), you cannot open the upgraded catalog in LR 5. Lightroom catalogs are not backwards compatible.

When you launch LR 6 the first time, it will automatically find the Lightroom 5 catalog, and ask you if you want to upgrade it.

If this doesn't happen, go to File > Open, and navigate to the LR 5 catalog.

The first time you launch LR 6, it should ask if you want to upgrade the LR 5 catalog. You should respond in the affirmative.

If for some reason it doesn't ask this, use the LR 6 command File->Open Catalog and select the LR 5 catalog file.
