Lightroom - resetting to the original

I have no knowledge of the setting up of Lightroom from scratch. It was installed and set up by a friend. However now, I am finding it difficult to import photos and process them in Lightroom. Importing from ext drives  have lost most metadata like labels and history. How can I bring this back to where I was a week ago?

Since I began to have problems with Lightroom I stopped backing up - since I thought it would mess up and back up these messy settings that have crept into the software. Can I rest to the original settings? Could I use the back up to restore all settings before the problems began? Please HELP!!!

Hi kevinp,

You can restore default Lightroom settings, See How to set Lightroom preferences

However, You won't be able to get back the lost metadata if the catalog wasn't backed up recently or to the time you'd like to restore it.

Let us know if you need any help.

Thanks,

Akash

Thank you Akash.

I did follow - but now:

All the Copyright watermarks have been wiped out, which is not a problem,

can do it again

The problem is - now that the external drive has been synced, whenever I

want to open from the synced external drive - the metadata and labels are

not seen. Also, the Import button is greyed out, so I cannot import the

file into light room and all the photos are greyed, and cannot be selected.

How do I fix this?

Regards,

kevin

Importing from the external drive causes Lightroom to think this is a brand new photo that it has never seen and thus it has no user-supplied metadata, edits, etc.

Importing is the WRONG thing to do for photos that have previously been edited in Lightroom.

Could you please explain in a lot more detail the EXACT STEPS that you followed here from the day Lightroom was set up until now? How did the photos wind up on the external drive? Where were they before? What happened from day 1 to when this problem started. Emphasis on "lot more detail", emphasis on "detail", leave nothing out.
