Have you tried it without the memory card installed in the camera?

Is Image Capture (Mac OS) or some other software grabbing control of your camera when you connect it, preventing Lightroom's access?

Go to Search and open Image Capture. Connect your D750.

Does it appear in the Image Capture window under Devices?

If so, look in the bottom left and expand the arrow and set the action to No Application.

Close Image Capture.

Then it is time to start troubleshooting components. Alternate Cables and Ports would be a good place to start.

Same problem here and switching ports does not works. Tethering works perfectly on Windows 10.

Seems stop working after a Sierra update. One years ago, when i first installed Sierra it works with no problems. Then one of the updates must cause the trouble. I tried everything but D750 with Sierra and LR updated seems impossibile to work. (of course I can see D750 on the import window)
