Hover effect on multiple targets with one trigger?

I have a couple of hundred icons of individuals which indicates the total amount of people involved. I have a list of traits such as red hair, brown hair and black hair in text boxes. I would like to have the first 30 individuals icons change color to red when I hover over the red hair text box and the next 60 icons change to brown when I hover over the brown hair text box, etc...  Is this possible?
