After Effects won't open on my Mac

I'm running into the same problem. I'm on macOS Sierra 10.12.5 and on a Mid 2010 Mac Pro.  After Effects CC 2017.2 (14.2) quits when I try to launch it.

I've tried uninstalling using the CC tool and App Cleaner then reinstalling just AE. This did not work.

AE 14.1 will open but not 14.2

Thoughts?

Do you get any error messages?

Is there any information in your crash logs?

Have you installed any third party extensions like Midas?

You might try moving your custom workspaces out of their folder and restarting AE.

Hey Szalam, thank you for the response.

- I do receive an error message. "After Effects has closed unexpectedly."

- There isn't anything helpful that I can see in the crash log.

- I'll check to see if anything your options 3 and 4 help. This is my personal computer so I won't be able to check until later tonight.

Go to the app icon in the program files, go to properties, and in compatibility tick run as admin.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm on a Mac but I can translate these direction over.

I'll check the Admin permissions and will keep you posted to let you know if the mac equivalent of this process works.

Hi Kevin - This did not help and I've been working with the previous version of AE while I wait for the next release. If you have any more suggestions I would love to try them out.

Szalam, thanks for the update on the update! I was able to install and open the newest release (14.2.1.34). Still never figured out why I couldn't open 14.2 but I'm on the latest version now so I guess it doesn't matter.
