We received a file where the numbers in the footnotes appeared converted to ~F.
(Fortunately he numbers in the main text are already fine. If it is inserted a new footnote the structure remains fine as the new one is added).
Manually the problem may be solved with single copy-paste replacements (Option B).
Automatically, no... that is the idea behind this thread.
The enclosed attachment shows the situation.
Thanks
Weird, as far as I can see the regular text Find/Change ought have worked. Can you try again with a GREP search? Look for \~F and change to ~F.
If that doesn't work either (which would strongly suggest a newly introducted bug!), copy a correct footnote number code, and see if "Replace with Clipboard Contents" works, in either regular Text or GREP Find/Change.

Try to re-save word file to Word 2003, and re-import to InDesign

M. Jongware,
Yes, it was solved magically by your magic!
In 1/10000 of a second.
The first idea (\~F and change to ~F.) was useless.
But the second one was PERFECT. (Clipboard Contents, Formated)
We have 200 footnotes and this is a charming whisper.
Thanks forever.

Glad to be of help!
As far as I can see, your own attempt and the GREP ought to have worked, so it really smells like a new bug. Best report it to Adobe, and refer to this thread, in the Feature Request/Bug Report Form.

Hi, very nice your idea.
Thought only Wordsflow was fine to export InDesign.
Althought the text gets a little crazy the footnotes got resolved.
We have to accept Jongware's idea.
Thanks!

Hi Camilo,
ah. I suspected that.
Did you read out the history of the document?
It would be interesting to know if the doc went to numerous changes in versions and platfoms.
Maybe it was corrupted that way…
Best,
Uwe
