Scrubby Zoom and my Wits End

I recently bought the adobe suite for my self, having used it on a friends computer for the last few months. My first problem has come from Photoshop randomly deleting settings and preferences, including brushes, and canvas settings. slightly annoying but nothing too major. then the scrubby zoom stopped working, also rather minor as far as problems go, but enough to torpedo my work flow and causing serious issues using the software. so I browse the forums and subreddit, trying every change I can; including edit>preferences>performance and turning off and on OpenCL, changing the drawing setting from advanced to normal to basic, all to no avail. I turned on animated zoom. I turned down the resolution of the image in-case my PC couldn't handle it. I reset my preferences using ctrl +shift +alt on start up, worked for a bit but nah, after about 10 minutes it turned off again. I feel I tried every possible combination of settings suggested by both here and reddit all for nothing.

So the issue must be my PC right? update the drives! after the rabbit that updating them dragged me down and all for naught I decided that there must be a problem with my instillation of Photoshop, a missing file or something. so I uninstall and re-install Photoshop, nada. even older versions of both drivers and photoshop aren't working.

What can I do at this point? just accept my fate? Give up and use something like GIMP or MS Paint? Please, you are my only hope.

Hey, had the same problem, you need to update you GPU drivers, go to Preferences > Performance and check box "Use graphics processor" and then if necessary check the scrubby zoom box on the top panel with the magnifying glass chosen.

when I said I had done everything I have found on the forums, I was not joking. thank you for trying to help but this was the first place I started looking for a solution 3 weeks ago when this fiasco started, I even messed around with the advanced options where suggested.

Can you go to Help > System Info and click on the Copy button? It will put all the System Info into the clipboard and then you Ctrl v the results into your reply.

I see nothing wrong off the bat. I notice you have extras like extension panels. Plugins and fonts can also cause problems.

While I know you paid for those panels, you can remove them and reinstall those later just to get them out of the question.

I'm sure you ran your disk repair utility to make sure disk errors are not involved.
