Beware of forum user - Jeff Franz.Adobe

Hi fellow Forum users,

This may make me sound dumb but I need to share my experience in case someone else gets conned.

I was trying to reactivate my CS3 license via forum and someone by this handle Jeff Franz.Adobe dropped me a pm.

Thinking that he was from Adobe I added him on Skype (he is using the Skype ID: adobesystems_24x7 and provided him with my Adobe ID and CS3 License Key. Eventually found out I was duped after calling Adobe directly.

Forum moderators please take the necessary actions if possible.

Thanks

Thank you ecoid for the heads up.

I will tag mention fellow ACP & Moderators as well as official Adobe Staff so that they can keep an eye out for this individual and where necessary take appropriate action.

Please be aware (as I am sure that you are now from your experience) that the only people in this forum who work for Adobe have a red STAFF badge under their names as per the example below:

2017-06-01_09-14-12.png

Whilst ACP's and MVP's also regularly can be found on the forums and often can be moderators like myself - We do not work for Adobe. Our role simply exists to help other forum users as users ourselves and share our knowledge to better enhance peoples experience... and on occasion learn something in the process.

Best wishes,

EW

Re: User with a skype scam problem

Madison acted promptly and revoked the name immediately. For some reason they cannot ban people from using Adobe in their screen name.

Re: User with a skype scam problem

Well done ecoid , not everyone would bother informing others after being scammed themselves.

I have placed a warning on the streamer on the main page. There used to be a fraud warning there but I guess it must have timed out. I'm not sure if we ACP/Moderators are supposed to do that, but I guess they will tell me if I can't lol

Nice one Terri Stevens

I have already apologised once... but I wish I had tagged you in the list the first time around.

As a Moderator myself - can I do this also in case it doesn't show on say the InDesign Forum? Or should we just let Adobe handle that as you say?

Best,

EW

Hi EW,

I think any of the moderators can put up a message on the Home page of a particular forum. I put up the one about the beginners forum a few months back when the old one expired and nobody said anything-so I think we are allowed to do it.

It's easy to do just press the 'Manage' button

Pete Green had posted an announcement on top of this forum in Mar 2015 when this Skype scam first began.   In fact, it's still there, It's #2 of 3.

Thanks Nancy,

yes Pete emailed me two days ago about that. Not sure what happened as at the time of posting there was just two announcements there, so I basically duplicated as much as I could remember of Pete's original thinking his had timed out. Anyhow that evening Pete's was back up, so I deleted mine as it was nearly identical. Not sure what happened whether JIVE was playing silly games, my Edge browser was not rendering the forum properly or maybe I'm just going blind-but everything is back to normal now.

Move the thread to the Holding Room (you have to actually start typing it out in the location window)

Then grab it's new URL and flag it in the Backroom or moderators forum.

That reminds me of a minor fuss a few years ago around the use of Adobe and Photoshop logos / icons used as forum avatars.

Re: PS Expert logo

Regards the original topic of this thread, perhaps words like Skype can be added to the flagged for moderation list?  Phishing is getting so common place now, I am sure I end up deleting genuine emails for fear they are fake.  They are getting damn clever at it as well.  I had one a few days ago that I _almost_ decided was the real thing, until hovering over a hyperlink which resolved it to an obviously nefarious URL.

This one from this afternoon was proper cheeky

ET I Obfuscated my email address in the screen shots for the sole reason that mods love to remove personal information, but I am actually completely happy to have my email address public, and have set it as such in my profile.  The iir.cz address is fake.

Ahh ok...

This reminds me of a salesman who I knew who loved to be argumentative...

He loved inviting Jehovah's Witnesses in to his home for coffee...

I think he even put a sign saying all political/religious canvassers welcome

FWIW the main reason I would still say it's good to remove personal information even if fake is that:

1. By doing so - and everyone upholding that rule except staff - we don't encourage or let people think it's ok to put their personal information out there...that then might cause similar situations to that of this thread.

2. We reduce the chance of people trying to and or looking for data to run phishing scams etc. through the adobe forums.

Best,

EW

Sounds like my Father. He's having a great time just now, telling politicians trying to get elected in next weeks election, where they are going wrong. I've warmed to the socialists, much to my surprise, as the Conservatives here are such a bunch of liars and I prefer honesty even if a politician isn't that slick.

Are you in the UK ET? Assumed you were in America. Did you see the pictures of Rex Tillerson standing next to Boris Johnson last week? You had this well dressed American, immaculately groomed standing next to our Foreign Secretary who looked like a hobo with hair that hadn't seen a comb in a week and a Saville Row suit he appears to use as pyjamas at night. What's scary is he's the bookies favourite to replace Theresa May if she falters as Prime Minister-what a country.

I'll borrow a quote for that assumption:

"When you assume... you make an a** out of u and me"

Yes I'm British. In fairness... I thought you were from america Terri... so we will call it even

Don't get me started on "dear old" Borris... perhaps he was good for a bit of public humour and gave politicians a sense of humanity that few seem to display... but otherwise he's piece of driftwood shaped like a baboon's anatomy that's floating downstream.

As our Foreign Secretary I find him to be a complete embarrassment of my country.  I don't care about the "glory days" but the one thing I was most proud of was the fact that we were recognised for our manners and decorum... the idea of the British Gentleman.... Something which I don't find... as a professional marketer... that "dear old" Borris portrays.

But I digress.

Best,

EW

I just re-joined this forum.  I'm not sure why or how politics got involved but you need to search for "Capitalism, Socialism or Communism" before you go making statements favoring anything over capitalism.  I suspect you live in a capitalistic community.

Anyway, what I wanted to ask is where is a community forum for the Adobe "livefyre" product?  I do not find any information on this Adobe website.

I've been there.  I need to ask technical questions about livefyre and I can not find where I should ask.  For example, I want to know specifically how login functionality is supposed to work.  Apparently CBS News uses livefyre and it is just about impossible to be successfully signed in.  When I click the SignIn link a popup window tells me I am already logged in.  But I can not post anything and the "SignIn" is normally replaced by my username if I have successfully logged in.  Those two things are out of sync 90% of the time.  I am registered with CBS rather than Facebook or other social programs.

Sometimes I have to reload, open new windows, let the page sit there for 5 minutes of no activity, or a dozen other things I've tried.  Eventually I get signed in if I am willing to keep trying.  It is not a pleasant experience and I would not recommend livefyre to my worst enemy.

Fully agree, I'm paranoid now about security and often discard things which are probably fine. Must say Kaspersky is pretty good-even with the recent cyber attack in Britain it was possible to decrypt encrypted files. I wasn't infected but nice to know they were on top of it.

Hi,

Were you finally able to solve the issue? Did the support guys at Adobe help you out?

Please avoid sharing such sensitive information with people on Adobe forums.

The appropriate way is to call the Adobe support helpline and request for guidance.

Please post the forum thread where you saw the person Jeff Franz.Adobe so that the activity can be verified and if possible the user can be blocked.

Is it this one?

https://forums.adobe.com/people/Jeff+Franz.Adobe

Also avoid responding to any such personal messages unless he or she has a "Staff" badge next to his name.

-Aman
