Application settings keep changing

This happens across InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator in particular:

I set up my application preferences, workspaces, plug-ins, etc., but sometime they disappear or change. Why do my settings keep getting randomly wiped out? This is impacting my work performance.

you could have an av, anti-malware, cleaner program causing the problem, or that could also be caused by sync'g your programs with cloud settings that are not customized to your latest specs.

Unfortunately, I have no control over the security implemented here—how do I update the cloud settings to match what I change locally?
