InDesign Super Slow

As of Friday, June 2 InDesign has slowed down to a very painful crawl. It is

impossible to work in. Every click of the mouse takes a minute to react - it

is absolutely ridiculous. Our IT department has done everything in their

power to right the problem but nothing has worked. Clearly it is a problem

with InDesign CC 2017. I want to know what you are doing to fix this

problem, your forum seems to indicate that I am not the only person

suffering with this issue. Please do something about it ASAP!

FYI – Spent the whole day trying to figure out what was going on with InDesign. Our IT technician figured out it coincided with the installation of a trial version of Suitcase. We have reinstalled InDesign and all is ok now.

Hi,

What is the exact InDesign version? Is it 12.0? or 12.1(the latest)?

Please upgrade to the latest one if it is otherwise.

In the meanwhile you can try Cleaning your Cache and Preferences.Troubleshooting 101: Replace, or "trash" your InDesign preferences

Try first of all try trashing your preferences:

Close and relaunch InDesign, and IMMEDIATELY hold down Ctrl + Alt + Shift (Windows) or Cmd + Ctrl + Opt + Shift (Mac), and respond in the affirmative to the dialog asking if you really want to replace the preferences. you must be extremely fast on the keyboard (if you don’t see the confirmation prompt, you were too slow)

You may have to do it a couple of times before you get the hang of it!

By the way, make sure you have the latest version – InDesign CC2017.1 and you're not addressing Adobe on these forums, we're volunteers.

You weren’t kidding about being quick on the keyboard, however it has appeared to have no effect.

Hi louiseb,

We are sorry about the inconvenience caused. I see that office It has tried to check at their end so I am assuming that basic troubleshooting has already been done.

In order to help you on this I would require some details like

Operating System(Exact version of Windows or MAC)

Exact version of InDesign

Graphic card you are using and when it was updated last?

Is this happening on one file or multiple or is it happening on new file files as well?

Where the files are saved? (Local drive or office network or shared drive)

We are using Windows 7 Professional and we also use Mac OS Seirra 10.12.5 – both systems are having issues. We have InDesign CC2017 the latest version updated from the cloud. NVIDIA Quadro 2000 last updated this morning. All InDesign files, we have a dedicated server, shared drive and have tried saving to our desktop. Nothing is working.

Hi Louise,

When the issue is seen on both the systems(windows and MAC), Could you please check how a new file performs if you save it on desktop instead of server and use it from there?

Also check how Windows PC performs in Hidden Admin Account( https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/555910/how-to-enable-the-built-in-administrator-account-in-...  ) and MAC in Root Account ( How to enable the root user on your Mac - Apple Support  )

And for MAC you may also try by turning of GPU performance (InDesign>Preferences>GPU Performance )

Regards

Srishti
