I am trying to change my color swatch to different colors but no matter what color I choose I just gives me different shades of black.

In Editor, Expert tab, go to Image menu>Mode> and check RGB color.

thank you for your response I ended up figuring it out when I went to start a new project and saw it wasn't on RGB I must have hit it by accident.
