LR 6.10.1 extremely slow on fast computer (windows 10)

I just recently purchased a lenovo yoga 910 with windows 10 on it (not the new creators version) and it is *incredibly* slow, and this computer has better specs than my windows surface pro that had no problem with it. 16GB ram, solid state half terrabyte drive, i7 processor, 7500U 2.7GHz. There's 200 GB free on my computer, so it can't be a drive space issue.

Yet when I am in library mode, just keying through images, it takes anywhere from 2 to 15 seconds to load the next image! I have standard previews already generated, (not 1:1), yet the spinny wheel comes up every other image when I am just trying to scroll through. On my windows surface pro and my old Sony VAIO, navigating through my images with the arrow key was so fast that it could look like an animation if you just held the arrow key down.

I went through all of the optimizing suggestions, took the folder out of my anti-virus software (AVG), unchecked the graphics processor even though this is not in develop mode, optimized the catalog, increased the raw file cache to 20GB from 1, still extremely slow. No change.

Please try generating the 1:1 previews and see if that helps.

Hello,  As I  said above, i do not have 1:1 previews, just standard. 1:1 previews are always slower to navigate and i don't need them. So that is not the issue. Though as a point of reference, the current navigation is MUCH slower than navigating 1:1 previews zoomed in. On my other computer i have never had to generate 1:1 just to navigate.

My suggestion above was meant as a diagnostic test to see if we can isolate the problem. You don't have to do it on all photos, just 20 or so to see if scrolling between these images in the Library Module is faster.

I do not agree that 1:1 previews are always slower to navigate; if your computer has to up-size from the standard preview to show you the image, then this takes CPU time and could be the cause of the slowness you are seeing.

So something strange is going on. I tried to build 1:1 previews but it says they already exist - but I know they don't. So then I selected to Discard 1:1 previews, and it supposedly did that but then when I tried to again build 1:1 previews, it said they already exist, even though I had just discarded them. Thoughts?

The navigation seems to be trying to render previews because it gets a spinny wheel each time, just in regular naviagation. Or something...

Ideas?

When I try to build 1:1 previews, I get a message that says "1:1 previews were built or already exist". Is that the message you are getting? This is perfectly normal and does indicate that 1:1 previews already exist.

But I don't really know why you are getting the spinning wheel in this case.

But there's something wrong because like i said, it told me they already exist, but they can't, i haven't touched that specific directory in at least half a year. And then i selected to remove the 1:1 for those 146 images and it said it did (very quickly, no progress bar), then after i shut down and restarted it i said to rebuild the 1:1, and it said they already existed immediately. Again, no progress bar. Typically to build 1:1 takes a number of minutes for that many images. I'm going to clear my preview cache tonight and see if it helps.

This was after i went to build them for the images i imported yesterday, as you suggested, and it also said they were already there, which again was not possible because i never built them. My import is only set to build standard.
