The icons in the swatches panel that show whether a colour is RGB, CMYK or Spot has gone. I have tried trashing preferences, it won't come back?
Assuming you didn't change the view from Name to Swatches in the panel menu, right?
If not, how did you trash preferences? If you used the keyboard shortcut, try it again by manually deleting the files. It's the 2nd technique listed in this doc:

Thanks Barb, I tried the keyboard option and it has worked. Manually deleting didn't work for me, but all okay now. Thanks.

Oh good. We've seen this with the selection dot on the Layers panel. It also goes missing, but only comes back when you manually delete the files, and not with the shortcut. It sounded like a similar issue, so very glad to learn that it is.
