Microsoft Surface Pro 4 i5 - Brush performance slow

We recently trialled Photoshop on our Microsoft SP4 with the i5 processor, and the performance outwardly was looking good. We've since updated to the full CC 2017 version and the performance has slowed considerably. The most noticeable issue is with the brush stroke that has a considerable lag as you draw. Any ideas?

Note that this is the i5 version, which doesn't have the Nvidia graphics card - are there any adjustments we should make to either Photoshop or the device to address these issues.
