Hello,
Our workflow dictates that we export a JPEG every time we make changes to an Indesign document.
We are looking to script an alert box that tells the user a JPEG was not exported when attempting to close the document.
Appreciate any help.
Thank you,

Do you want the alert appears always on close?

I think you'll need to add an eventListener beforeClose or before invoke
the close menu action (showing an alert to export JPG).
But... you'll need to add an eventListener to "see" if the JPG was
exported. And, if yes, remove the eventListener you put on close (to enable
the close action without showing the alert to export JPG).
Am I clear?
