Over The Horizon 2017 - YouTube

Im way too much of a noob to figure it out. To me this goes way beyond using a 3D Camera tracker and using a bunch of nulls for each keyed out clip of the musician.

The camera is CONSTANTLY moving, I can see moments in between scenes where I imagine there would be cuts, but the camera is just so SMOOTH, it really just looks like a seamless, long tracking shot. How would you even plan something out like this?

I'd be grateful for any tips or strategies you guys think would work!

A Google search for Over the Horizon 2017 behind the scenes produced this link as one of the first results. They describe how they did it and even have a video showing you behind the scenes!

Interestingly, it looks like they used Cinema 4D in the process too (look at the video at the 1:01 mark).

Nothing to do with AE. Meticulous shot planning and a motion control camera crane.

It's a robotic camera that records the same "path" in every pass. There is a lot of roto work for getting this result.

Soon a $100 drone with an HD camera will be able to achieve the same thing.  If it can't already.

EDIT: It wasn't until 3/4 the way through watching the video for the second time that I realized it was all the same guy.

Nice clip, but (being pedantic) there are a few little issues with reflections and shadows through the coloured light middle section.

Here's a little trip down memory lane - fifteen years ago Michel Gondry directed this music video for Kylie Minogue" which utilises the same concept, but has some amazing interaction between the multiple singers.

And here's a "Making Of" of the above:
