HI Natalie,
Sorry to hear about this. As David said it could possible that the file itself is corrupt. Please check if this is happening with multiple files or a particular file? If it happening with a particular file then the file itself is corrupt and there are multiple factors both internal and external to InDesign application that can lead to document corruption. However, we can take a look and see if the file can be repaired. Please email your InDesign file to corrupt_indesign_docs@adobe.com

Hi nathalies,
Please try these steps and share results
1) Check for updates
Close all Adobe applications
Open Creative Cloud Desktop App and check for updates, update InDesign if there is a update available
2) Reset preferences
Close all Adobe applications
Go to location ~/Library/Preferences and ~/Library/Cache and delete InDesign folders (Adobe InDesign and com.adobe.indesign)
Relaunch application from Creative Cloud Desktop App
3) If it still does not work boot system to safe boot with same account and check how it works, if it works fine close all third party running services. For details click here Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac - Apple Support
4) If still does not work uninstall InDesign by Creative Cloud Desktop App,
Remove Adobe InDesign folder from Application folder , ~/Library/Preferences and ~/Library/Cache
then reinstall application from Creative Cloud Desktop App

If the file is larger than 10 Mb, you can zip (and password protect) the file and upload to Creative Cloud account (or Dropbox) and send us the document link.
I must also inform that file recovery can't be guaranteed with a 100% success. We'll surely try our best.
Regards,
Srishti

Bad files, crashes and the likes can happen for various, often hard to figure our reasons. Adobe can do their best, but if they cannot reproduce an issue, it is hard to do much about it. We here at Markzware have technology and methodologies which can often fix corrupt InDesign files. This is obviously your last hope, but we stand-ready to assist:

Presumably you have back-up/previous earlier versions?
