Can you attach two full screenshots.

The first immediately before the extrusion - include the layers panel with the text layer selected.

The second  immediately after the extrusion with the 3D and properties panel included  (with the front inflation material selected) as well as the properties panel.

Use the Windows snipping tool (type Snip into the windows search box). Just paste the screenshots straight into the forum post

From the drawing artifacts alone it is clear that you ahve an issue with your graphics hardware - either the driver isn't up to date, not configured suitably or your graphics hardware is inadequate to begin with. You need to work on that. Providing system info might halep people to advise.

I agree with Mylenium - you have a graphics issue. Your 3D panel and Properties panel look normal but look at the edge of the window where the ruler should be and you are showing parts of another window.

Go to Help - System info press copy and paste the info here.

Also show your Preferences 3D settings and Preferences Performance settings

Hi

I can't see anything wrong with your settings but your intel graphics driver looks old (judging by the date). It will be worth checking for a more recent update (use the Intel site rather than rely on Windows update)

I've updated the graphics driver and the 3d text still turns out white.

As Trevor pointed out to you earlier, your graphics card is at the very bottom of the barrel in terms of features and speed. To be blunt, integrated Intel HD graphics chips are quite unsuitable for 3d work, and Photoshop's older 3d implementation isn't going to help here either.

You seem to be out of luck.

Yes, you definitely need a computer with a better graphics card and more RAM. Then you should be able to get your 3d text working fine. 🙂

Well, I've seen Photoshop 3d working on similar system hardware. Have you tried changing to a lower level hardware support when you click on the "Advanced Settings" button, and restarted Photoshop?

Also try creating 3d text in a low-resolution document, for example 800x600, and see if that works.

And check if Blender will work - if that works, than the driver functions. Btw, you could also create the 3d text you need in Blender, and import the 3d model in Photoshop. Also test if you are able to import a simple 3d model in Photoshop, and check if that displays properly.

The screenshot in post 4 points to a GPU issue. There are issues with the ruler on screen. So it is not just a 3D rendering issue.

The starting point should be a GPU driver update. Then as rayek.elfin points out, try each GPU setting.

Thanks guys! Below is my system info and preferences.

Like Dave says, you should check that your system has the most up to date driver.  I'm guessing that your system is fairly old as it does not say what version of Intel HD graphics you have, and that yours is the original.  But if it will take one of these _much_ more recent drivers, then go right ahead (a little bit of irony there ) and up date it.

The bottom line here is that your system spec is marginal.  You have just 8Gb RAM, and built in graphics taking some of that.  Your issue with 3D looks _very_ much like it is GPU related, and I suspect that an up to date driver is your only chance... but don't hold your breath.

Good luck.  I say that a lot, but this time you are going to need it.

It might be worth you taking this Lynda.com course by Nigel French, it shows you how to produce all kinds of Photoshop type effects, including 3D (you can get a 30-day free trial): Photoshop for Designers: Type Effects

One of my favourite Lynda presenters, and one of my very favourite Linda titles. I love that he never ever says, 'I'm gonna go right ahead', unlike so many Lynda presenters that start ever sentence that way.  Nigel is a nice person as well, and happy to respond to emails if you have a thorny Type issue you can't get to grips with (having obviously tried this forum first of course ).

Hi Trevor,

I've emailed Nigel with a copy of your kind comments.

Being English he's unlikely to say "I'm gonna go right ahead" !

Cheers,

Derek
